I came to see Dr Golden with a severe viral infection that had started in my throat. Several days in and I was unable to have cold water pass over my tongue, gums or my throat. I also had ulcers on my tongue and my gums. I couldn’t eat anything that wasn’t warm or liquid because it resulted in extreme pain for my tongue and my gums in the back of my mouth. The surface of my tongue had “geographic” patterns on it also; bald patches and bright red inflamed patches outlined by white lines. My tongue, gums and throat were all swollen. Within 3 days of having 20 minutes of laser work done on my tongue every day by Dr Golden the geographic lines had disappeared from over half of my tongue, the inflammation had gone down and 1 open, large and particularly painful ulcer on the inside of my lower lip was all but healed. I could start to drink water again! After 5 sessions of laser therapy on my tongue I was able to eat and drink normally and the surface of my tongue had returned to a normal healthy pink colour, with no white geographic lines and no ulcers. My tongue actually looks healthier now than I have seen it in over several years.

Dear Marilyn
Throughout my children’s lives I have tended to use natural therapies for our health management, including acupuncture, homeopathy, chiropractics, nutrition, and occasionally, supplements. Very rarely do we go to a doctor as I have generally been dissatisfied with the explanation for my child’s poor health. In fact, I am usually told nothing more than I knew myself. Your services came highly recommended by a friend and attracted me because you have the mainstream medical training and expertise, as well as training in all the therapies I have come to trust. How fortunate we are that you are trained in both.
When I came to your office last week with my son Charles I was seeking an explanation for his lethargy and lack of desire to eat. This was day two, of what I thought was a vomiting bug. However, as Charles hadn’t done his usual thing of bouncing back after 24 hours I wanted an understanding of what was happening, particularly as he wasn’t really eating and even getting him to have fluids was a challenge. I was expecting a TCM pulse reading where you would discover there was a weakness in an organ or poor energy flow somewhere which would lead to an acupuncture treatment and possibly some herbs, and we would be on our way. This was not to be. Yes, you read his pulse; however, you also used your knowledge, experience, contacts, skills, and training in Western Medicine to help save Charles’ life as your integrated medical assessment seemed to suggest Charles may have appendicitis. Calmly you wrote a referral and sent us across your hallway to have blood and urine samples taken whilst you endeavoured to get in touch with a surgeon who you knew. Fortunately you were able to obtain an appointment with the surgeon who agreed to see us as soon as we could get to his rooms. I say fortunately, because by 8pm that night, (only five hours after we first saw you), Charles was having his appendix removed as an emergency operation where the surgeon discovered the appendix had ruptured. According to the surgeon, had this been left for 48 hours the outcome would have been tragic. When the surgeon came to see us on Charles’ last day in hospital he commented that Charles was the sickest little boy he had seen in a long time. I don’t event want to imagine what would have happened if you had sent us home.
Fortunately, Charles has bounced back and my greatest challenge is to keep him out of the pool and surf and off all his wheels (bike, ripstick, scooter, unicycle) to allow his body time to recover. He has no real understanding of the magnitude of what his body has experienced. Throughout this whole process your support has been amazing. The calls to check how things are were a complete surprise, and something for which I have enormous gratitude as I felt so supported and cared for by someone who fully understood the implications of the operation and who had a professional relationship with the surgeon if I had any queries or concerns.
And now, after all this, I’m delighted to be able to discuss with you the process of re-building Charles to ensure he is strong again after having his body blasted by very strong antibiotics, and of course the general anaesthetic. To be able to work with a doctor who has an integrated approach to health management is a relief. I can only give thanks that you have done all the training you have, and continue to build your knowledge to take care of all those people who seek a wholistic approach and understanding of their health concerns.
Again, thank you. I look forward to seeing you again next week for Charles’ live blood analysis to see how his health appears using that diagnostic tool.
Warm regards
Catherine.
